After signing a five-year framework agreement for smart meter supplies with EKZ (Elektrizitätswerke des Kantons Zürich), Iskraemeco is making further advances on the Swiss market. Smart meters for residential, commercial and industrial use recently received type approvals from the Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS). The approvals are the basis on which the Swiss regulators have set the long-term Swiss Energy Plan that will be implemented in the upcoming years.
Smart meters AM550 and MT880 have met all of the specific and rigorous requirements for receiving the METAS approval (B+D). METAS, the Swiss Federal Institute for Metrology, stands at the cutting edge of measurement accuracy in Switzerland. It serves as the federal centre of competence for all issues related to measurement, measuring equipment and measuring procedures.
By obtaining B+D Meter type approvals by the Federal Institute of Metrology, Iskraemeco is fully set to be part of smart metering projects in Switzerland. The 2018 Switzerland Energy Act set goals and measures targeting energy saving and efficiency. Data security is a prime requirement of the Energy Act. Both smart meters have modern encryption and authentication methods that ensure that the metering data transfer runs smoothly and the data stay intact during the process. This enables the safe collection and processing at the next system level.
